Stone of Scone
The following is the history regarding the stone planted in the ground at the front of the hostel.
This particular stone, the Stone of Scone, was once the basis of a throne of a king in Scotland. Piet "Spiere" du Toit was in the Springbok Rugby team while being a resident at Huis Marais. When the Springboks, including Piet, went to Scotland to play rugby, he stole the Stone of Scone from underneath the king's throne and swam with it on his back, back to South Africa. Piet was so strong, that he planted the Stone of Scone into the ground with his bare hand, by bashing it into the ground!
And that is how the Stone of Scone came to be.
